According to Alan Nixon, the two managers are both keeping tabs on the situation at Home Park amid speculation over the future of Wayne Rooney.

Rooney was appointed over the summer, but his previous managerial stint in the Championship at Birmingham proved a total disaster.

This has led to the 38-year-old being under pressure to deliver results immediately, having only overseen 15 games while in charge of the Blues.

But a 2-1 win over Blackburn Rovers on Saturday afternoon should help ease any pressure on his position going into the October international break.

Lowe was in attendance for the team’s dramatic 2-1 win over Blackburn on Saturday, as Rooney’s side came from behind to earn an important three points.

The 46-year-old was in the director’s box, with Schumacher also at the game with the scouts in a game that saw Rooney sent to the stands after receiving a red card.

Goals from Michael Obafemi and Morgan Whittaker secured victory, which moved the Pilgrims to 14th in the Championship table.

Rooney’s side have earned 11 points from nine fixtures, and sit four points clear of the relegation zone.

Joe Rankin-Costello had equalised in the 86th minute after Obafemi’s opener within the first quarter of an hour.

But Whittaker struck deep into stoppage time, with Lowe and Schumacher both in the crowd to see the jubilant scenes as his goal won the hosts the game.

Lowe and Schumacher are both out of work at the moment, with the former departing Preston North End in August, and the latter being dismissed by Stoke City in September.

Schumacher guided Plymouth to Championship promotion in 2023, but made the switch to Stoke last December, while Lowe had been in charge at Deepdale since December 2021.

Ryan Lowe and Steven Schumacher’s Plymouth record

Lowe took charge of Plymouth in June 2019, overseeing 128 games for the Pilgrims before departing for Preston.

The club earned promotion to League One under the ex-Preston boss, before he was replaced by Schumacher after his move to the Lancashire outfit.

The 40-year-old was promoted from assistant manager to become head coach following Lowe’s exit.

He guided them to a seventh place finish in his first campaign in charge at Home Park, before they went on to win the League One title in 2023.

Recent results have earned Rooney time at Plymouth

Plymouth have won three of their last five games to move clear of the relegation zone, which has surely bought Rooney some time at the club.

The circumstances surrounding his appointment, as well as the 4-0 hammering they received on the opening day, meant that he was under immediate pressure to succeed.

The availability of Lowe and Schumacher won’t help the situation given the achievements they earned during their time with the club in the past.

But if Rooney’s team can keep picking up good results, and stay clear of the bottom three, then there should be no uncertainty over his future with the Pilgrims.
