Russell Martin Makes Yet Another Rangers Gaffe As He Adds Kieran Dowell As ‘Captain’

Gambar artikel:Russell Martin Makes Yet Another Rangers Gaffe As He Adds Kieran Dowell As ‘Captain’

The Russell Martin era at Rangers took yet another dismal and depressing turn in the last 24 hours, when it was confirmed not only is Jack Butland and James Tavernier continuing to be senior members of the leadership crew, as confirmed by Russell Martin, but a third addition has been added to this, as well as John Souttar, as well. Souttar, we can go with. Butland, we cannot. Tavernier, we cannot.

But the third addition, stroke fourth depending on your point of view, really is an utterly depressing one. Kieran Dowell, probably the most disliked and disparaged member of the squad, give or take, has been officially confirmed as part of the leadership crew of this squad. If nothing else indicated the absolute farce that is the Russell Martin era at Rangers, that a disliked player who has contributed absolutely nothing since he joined in 2023, who was farmed out on loan to Birmingham City as an unwanted piece of chaff, is now being named as part of the senior leadership crew and is to be a major part of this manager’s era going forward. What does?

Ibrox Noise were definitively against Russell Martin’s appointment and literally everything this quote-unquote manager has done has simply reaffirmed our disappointment at this regime picking him as the man to spearhead a so-called revolution. Not one decision this manager has taken has been a good one to the benefit of the club. Tavernier has entrenched himself as the captain further rather than being removed like any sensible manager would do. Of course we haven’t had a sensible manager and sadly we include Giovanni in this who also would not displace that man as captain when he was manager back in the day.

However, it is the appointment of Dowell as brand new senior squad leadership material that is utterly, completely and totally baffling. Actually it is not. It is in line with every single thing that this manager is going to do. Every single thing that Rangers fans would not want to see is what he is going to do. Now in fairness we do agree that you don’t necessarily listen to the people of any organisation when it comes to making decisions. We endorse that. We endorse not listening to the crowd, the big numbers because they don’t always, if indeed ever, get it right. So we’re not going to criticise him for doing something strictly that fans dislike.

But the reality is that Dowell has hardly played for Rangers. He is not a very good player. He is not awful. He is mediocre. As we described at the time, he is an absolute nothing and pointless signing. To make him part of the leadership crew after he was farmed out because he was so redundant at Rangers really does sum up this era, this regime. This Rangers is going nowhere under this manager. We cannot believe, or indeed more depressingly, count the number of bad decisions this guy is making.

If you appoint a manager from the mid-level Championship who is also League One as well by trade, you’re going to get that if you make him the manager of Rangers. Dowell as a new senior leader, give us a break. Unfortunately, we’re not going to get one.
