Rumours: English and Danish interest in NEC Nijmegen’s Sontje Hansen | OneFootball

Sontje Hansen could leave NEC Nijmegen this summer. According to Voetbal International, the 23-year-old winger has interest from England and Danish champion FC Copenhagen.

Hansen is in his third season at NEC, after his transfer from Ajax in the summer of 2023. Hansen has played 72 matches, scored 13 goals and registered nine assists in two years for Nijmegen.

At the end of last season, he indicated that he was open to the next step in his career. Clubs from England have reportedly ‘been keeping an eye on Hansen’ for a long time, but so far no transfer has been made.

Now, Middlesbrough and Wrexham have shown interest. Middlesbrough’s interest is the most serious, although the club from the Championship has not yet made an offer to NEC.

Copenhagen also has Hansen’s name on the wish list. The Danish champions previously did business with NEC a year and a half ago, when Magnus Mattsson was bought for five million and could continue the link with a fresh bid for Hansen. Jordan Larsson, another former Nijmegen man, is also active for Copenhagen.

Hansen is still contracted at NEC until the summer of 2027, but could leave before then. Hansen saw a transfer to France fall apart last winter as RC Lens’ bid was rejected by the Dutch club.
