Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim has fired a brutal dig at exiled star Marcus Rashford, suggesting he would rather play goalkeeping coach Jorge Vital than the forward.

Amorim said this after United’s 1-0 victory over Fulham at Craven Cottage on Sunday evening.

Lisandro Martinez scored the only goal of the match to help his side climb up to 12th place in the Premier League table.

On yet another occasion, Amorim left Rashford out of the matchday squad. Rashford has not featured in United’s last 11 matches across all competitions.

And if remarks made by Amorim in his post-match press conference are anything to go by, it doesn’t seem like the England international will not be reinstated any time soon.

When asked about Rashford’s absence vs. Fulham, Amorim told reporters, “It’s the same, it’s always the same reason. The reason is the training, the way I see what footballers should do in training, in life, it’s every day, every detail.”

“So if things don’t change, I will not change. It’s the same situation for every player. If you do the maximum, if you do the right things, we can use every player.”

“And you can see it today on the bench, we miss a little bit of pace to go and change the game, move some pieces. But I prefer it like that. I will put Vital [63-year-old] on before I put a player on that don’t give the maximum every day. So I will not change in that department.”

Another player Amorim spoke about was Alejandro Garnacho, who continues to be linked with an exit from United ahead of transfer deadline day on February 3.

Amorim replied when asked whether Garnacho will be sold, “That nobody knows.”

“Anything can happen but with Garna, he is improving in every department of the game, the way he recovered, the understanding of the game, the way he defends.”

“I’m trying to find the best position for him. Today he played more open and not so much inside. We need guys one against one but I don’t know what will happen until the end of the window.”

Rasmus Hojlund struggled against Fulham and was arguably United’s worst player on the pitch.

However, according to Amorim, the Dane is still determined to improve and come good at Old Trafford.

“He really wants it. Without training, you notice a lack of connection. You don’t have time to work on these kinds of things. He has a lot to improve like his teammates.”

“The important thing is that I see every day that he wants it. He wants to work more at the end of the session.”

United are back in action on Thursday when they meef FCSB in the Europa League.
