Ruben Amorim plots starting XI shake-up that will please Man Utd fans, it’s time for one struggler to be dropped

The inability for Manchester United’s Chido Obi to help the squad in European play comes to the dismay of many fans.

Unfortunately for supporters, the promising teenager wasn’t registered to be eligible for the competition. It’s understandable why many were hoping to see the 17-year-old in the Round of 16 and potentially further.

After a heartbreaking FA Cup exit, that remains the only available opportunity to earn silverware on the year. More importantly, it’s the only path to playing in any international format next year. Regardless, those hoping to see the youngster get a start may not have to wait too much longer.

Clear opportunity around the corner

GiveMeSport reports that Man Utd’s Chidi Obi can soon expect to get the green light from the opening whistle. This is particularly true considering two aspects.

Firstly, injuries are mounting throughout Ruben Amorim’s side. Strikers Joshua Zirkee and Rasmus Hojlund are struggling to get on the score sheet. Granted, the Dutch player is impressing. His link-up play and drop-back ability make him an ideal fit with the newer face of the first team.

Either way, the team appears in need of a shakeup. The effort levels are better from when Amorim took over. Still, the attack doesn’t look strong enough to instill too much confidence.

The Reds will need to focus on the Europa League. Proving better capabilities through the end of the Premier League season is a must. This is where Man Utd’s Chido Obi can help.

Hojlund and Zirkzee need to figure it out in the lone remaining competition. It’s unreasonable for those two to play the rest of the minutes. Playing the recently promoted player will allow him to gain valuable experience. It will also allow the other forwards to rest their legs as needed.

Amorim can also use the teenager to keep the two aforementioned players more on their toes as their form continues to dip. The Portuguese manager has already shown the willingness to switch personnel up. Moreover, if he believes a player isn’t playing at the right level, he doesn’t hesitate to keep them off the pitch.

At 17 years old, the game of the Danish footballer is far from fully developed. This provides legitimate excitement for a fanbase that hasn’t had much to be excited about for a bit. Managing and tempering potentially sky-high expectations will be important.

He’s already shown glimpses. Truthfully, he nearly sent the Red Devils through to the next round of the FA Cup. Too much pressure on a player has proven to be a negative. Even for a club that has struggled, the pressure of the badge has been too heavy for some players’ shoulders. He will have a lot to help overcome within this squad. He’s off to a great start.

Getting an EPL start could prove to be an excellent boost of confidence. If increased minutes fail to immediately translate to wins and goals, there is still plenty to be excited about and look forward to with Man Utd’s Chido Obi.
