Roma sporting director Florent Ghisolfi will soon hold a crunch meeting with Paulo Dybala’s entourage, Carlos Novel, to discuss a contract extension. According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the parties will reconvene at the end of the January transfer window to determine La Joya’s fate.

Dybala’s contract at the Stadio Olimpico expires at the end of the season. However, there was an affordable release clause in his deal. In fact, interested could have purchased the versatile forward for a mere €12 million until last night.

With that clause out of the way, Dybala will stay at Roma until June. Three more appearances would trigger an automatic contract renewal for another year. The 31-year-old takes home a handsome €6m net per season, making him the club’s highest earner.

Given Dybala’s performances, he’s worth every penny. The diminutive wizard has been the beating heart of this Giallorossi team since swapping Juventus for Roma in 2022. When fit, Dybala is undoubtedly one of the finest forwards in Serie A, let alone the Stadio Olimpico.

Unfortunately, injuries have plagued his stint in the capital. He has tallied five goals and two assists across 17 league appearances. As such, Roma would ideally reduce Dybala’s wages, hence the upcoming meeting between Novel and Ghisolfi.

Roma were even willing to listen to offers for Dybala earlier in January when Galatasaray approached the Argentine ace with a tangible proposal. However, he has since proved to Claudio Ranieri that he can stay fit, featuring in six consecutive league games.

Dybala could make his 100th appearance for Roma against Genoa on Friday. But if it also proves his last in the red shirt, the Giallorossi could accelerate their interest in out-of-favor Napoli forward Giacomo Raspadori.
