After the official announcement of Gian Piero Gasperini as the new coach, one of the first names to emerge for Roma’s midfield was Manu Koné.
The French player, appreciated for his physical strength, vision and personality, is considered the ideal profile for the coach’s system.
Gasperini is counting on building the new midfield around him.
According to Corriere dello Sport, the Giallorossi management does not intend to sell him, despite the needs related to capital gains.
In fact, sporting director Frederic Massara has currently ruled out the possibility of including him in the list of departures, preferring to focus on more easily expendable elements such as Angeliño and N’Dicka.
Koné, signed for around 18 million euros, is now a key player in the French national team as well.
Roma consider him an essential piece, especially in view of the possible movements in midfield: Cristante could leave the club, while Paredes is being followed by Boca Juniors.
In the meantime, Pellegrini will gradually return and Pisilli is expected to grow further.
Among the alternatives evaluated by the club, Franck Kessié was also proposed, but the operation was deemed economically unsustainable. In any case, the club’s position on Koné is clear: only offers exceeding 40 million euros will be taken into consideration.
