Al-Nassr’s pursuit of Rodrygo Goes has hit a swift and decisive roadblock, according to reporting from 90min. The Saudi Pro League club, eager to build an attack worthy of Cristiano Ronaldo’s twilight years, targeted the Real Madrid forward with an offer described as “limitless”—one that included a massive salary, a record signing bonus, and star status in Riyadh.
It’s understood that Cristiano Ronaldo himself recommended Rodrygo to Al-Nassr’s hierarchy. With the club seeking another quick and creative forward to partner their Portuguese icon, the idea was to give Rodrygo both the resources and the freedom to shine alongside him. Al-Nassr made initial contact through Rodrygo’s representatives, promising the 23-year-old Brazilian a leading role and financial terms far beyond conventional European offers.
Despite the ambitious approach, Rodrygo reportedly rejected Al-Nassr’s advances, focusing instead on his footballing ambitions. Sources indicate that his priorities remain competitive: he aims to continue playing at the highest level in European football, with particular interest in the Premier League. Arsenal and Liverpool are among the clubs believed to have expressed admiration for the Real Madrid winger, reinforcing his preference to stay in, or move within, Europe’s top leagues.
For now, monetary incentives and the allure of Middle Eastern football have not swayed Rodrygo. His decision echoes a broader trend of younger top-tier European talents prioritizing sporting progression over lucrative moves abroad, at least in the current stage of their careers.
Al-Nassr’s attempt, though ultimately unsuccessful, further demonstrates the club’s intent, especially with Ronaldo playing a major role in shaping recruitment policy. The Portuguese star’s influence continues to be felt on and off the pitch as Al-Nassr looks to position itself among football’s elite, though this latest bid serves as a reminder of the challenges in attracting in-prime European stars.
