Robert Vilahamn has released a statement on social media after he was sacked as manager by Tottenham Hotspur Women.

The decision comes after Tottenham finished second-bottom in the Women’s Super League, with just 20 points from their 22 games.

This marked a decline from last season where they finished sixth and reached the final of the FA Cup.

“There have been some special moments during Robert’s tenure,” said women’s managing director Andy Rogers.

“However, results and performances this season have not been to the level we would expect and now is the right time to make a change.”

Former Tottenham manager Robert Vilahamn breaks silence on sacking

Robert Vilahamn posted a 148-word message on his Instagram account following the news that the manager had been sacked by Tottenham Women.

“My time as Head Coach of Tottenham Hotspur Women has come to an end,” he started.

“I’m incredibly proud to have led this amazing club for two years and to have worked alongside such talented players, dedicated staff, and passionate fans.

“Together, we shared many special moments—none greater than leading the team out at Wembley in front of 76,000 people for the FA Cup Final against Manchester United, and, for the first time, beating Arsenal at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in front of our home crowd.

“Even though this season brought its challenges, I don’t believe in failure—I believe in learning through experience. These two years have given me so much, both professionally and personally, and I’ll carry those lessons with me as I continue my coaching journey.

“Thank you to everyone who supported us throughout this chapter. I wish the club all the best and every success in the future.”

What went wrong for Tottenham in 2024-25?

There were high hopes for Tottenham and head coach Robert Vilahamn after reaching the FA Cup and finishing sixth in the WSL in 2023-24.

Vilahamn was adamant that their FA Cup run last season could catapult their growth.

Speaking in an interview with She Kicks in December, Vilahamn spoke about hoping to close the gap on the top three in the WSL.

He said: “I hope that we can take steps and not focus too much about the gap to the top three, because it’s a big gap, it’s bigger than I expected, but it’s still possible. I think the environment, the development, the core group we have here, could actually be the thing that gets us closer to them; when the time is right, we’re going to beat them as well.”

The club made nine signings in the summer, including Spanish international Maite Oroz and Australian Hayley Raso.

However, the losses of loanee Grace Clinton and Celin Bizet turned out to be huge blows.

They finished second from bottom, conceding 44 goals, beaten only by the relegated Crystal Palace.

The season ended horribly for Vilahamn as Tottenham failed to win any of their final 10 WSL games – with seven defeats.

Vilahamn’s sacking came just two days after the men’s squad decided to part ways with Ange Postecoglou. That was despite the Australian coach guiding Spurs to their first trophy in 17 years by beating Manchester United in the Europa League final.
