MIAMI – The 2025 Concacaf Gold Cup will see Panama make its 12th appearance in the tournament.
Panama will feature in Group C with Jamaica, Guatemala and Guadeloupe. The nation is managed by Danish Spanish head coach Thomas Christiansen for a third consecutive edition.
The nation’s latest qualification came as one of the quarterfinal winners in the 2024/25 Concacaf Nations League. Panama defeated Costa Rica 3-2 on aggregate to advance to the 2025 CNL Finals.
José Fajardo struck from the penalty spot to provide the lone goal in the 1-nil Panama win in the first leg at the National Stadium in San José, Costa Rica.
The two sides played to a 2-2 draw in the second leg at Estadio Rommel Fernández in Panama City, with César Blackman and José Luis Rodríguez scoring for the Panamanians.
After reaching the Final of the 2023 Gold Cup, Panama reached another Concacaf Final by defeating the United States, 1-nil, in the CNL Semifinals. Cecilio Waterman struck in stoppage time to end the U.S.’s reign.
Adalberto Carrasquilla struck from the penalty spot in the championship match as Mexico prevailed 2-1 to take the title. The runners-up finish in the CNL Finals marked another first under Christiansen’s tenure.
Panama will seek to return to the Final of the Gold Cup and second consecutive under Christiansen. Los Canaleros seek to win the competition for the first time, with their closest efforts coming at the 2005, 2013, and 2023 editions as runners-up.
