Inter Milan are planning to have Ange-Yoan Bonny be the backup to Marcus Thuram next season.

This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInter1908.

Striker Ange-Yoan Bonny joined Inter Milan this summer. The Frenchman arrived on a five-year deal from Parma.

Bonny had been a Parma player for four years, having signed for the Emilian club in 2021.

And last season was Bonny’s first in Serie A. He made the step up well, helping Parma to remain in the top flight.

Therefore, Bonny caught Inter’s eye. And the fact that Cristian Chivu took over as Inter coach following his successful stint in charge of Parma certainly didn’t hurt Bonny as a target for the Nerazzurri.

Clearly, Inter Milan are not planning to make Ange-Yoan Bonny a first-choice striker right away.

However, that leads to the question of exactly what the 21-year-old’s role will be at the Nerazzurri next season.

Particularly considering the expected arrival of Ademola Lookman or a different attacker to facilitate the switch to a 3-4-2-1 formation.

According to Tuttosport, Inter’s plan is to have Bonny be the backup to fellow Frenchman Marcus Thuram.

Clearly, Thuram will not start every match next season. And Inter’s idea is that, rather than having an older player to back up the 27-year-old, Bonny can be his understudy, learning and improving.
