Al-Nassr Enter Race for Brentford’s Yoane Wissa Amid Premier League Interest

French outlet L’Equipe reports that Brentford forward Yoane Wissa is now attracting serious interest from Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr, joining Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur, and Neom in pursuit of the 28-year-old.

Brentford’s Summer of Change

It’s been a busy summer in West London, with Brentford proving a difficult club for suitors to negotiate with. “After selling Bryan Mbeumo to Manchester United for €81 million… Mark Flekken to Leverkusen for €10 million, and Christian Nørgaard to Arsenal for €11.6 million,” L’Equipe notes, the Bees are holding firm over Wissa’s valuation.

The Congolese international, who remains under contract until 2026, is regarded as a vital part of Thomas Frank’s squad. However, the club’s stance has not deterred would-be buyers. According to L’Equipe, “the London club’s demands are, for now, considered too high,” but that has not stopped Al-Nassr from stepping forward with an offer believed to be close to Brentford’s expectations.

Al-Nassr’s Ambitious Move

With Cristiano Ronaldo leading the line in Riyadh, Al-Nassr are aggressively adding attacking talent to maintain their competitive edge in the Saudi Pro League and continental competitions. L’Equipe reports that “Saudi officials are now in turn discussing ways to convince Brentford, the striker, and his entourage” of a move.

Such a signing would mirror the high-profile acquisitions Saudi clubs have made in recent transfer windows, offering lucrative contracts to tempt stars away from European football.

Premier League Competition

Newcastle United and Tottenham have been tracking Wissa for several weeks. His versatility — comfortable on either wing or as a central striker — makes him a desirable option for clubs seeking added firepower. While Saudi spending power poses a real challenge, Premier League allure and Champions League opportunities could still weigh in the favour of English clubs.

Whether Brentford will cash in on another star this summer remains to be seen, but with multiple bidders, this could be one of the more intriguing sagas of the window.

Our View – EPL Index Analysis

From a Newcastle United supporter’s standpoint, the news of Al-Nassr entering the race for Yoane Wissa is both frustrating and familiar. We’ve seen this pattern before — target identified, negotiations ongoing, and then a late Saudi move changes the landscape.

Wissa fits the profile Eddie Howe tends to admire: high work rate, tactical flexibility, and proven Premier League experience. His goal output for Brentford last season, coupled with his ability to stretch defences, would be an asset at St James’ Park, especially given the need to probably replace Alexander Isak.

However, Saudi clubs bring a financial element that’s difficult to compete with. While Newcastle’s ownership has links to the Saudi Public Investment Fund, the club remains bound by Premier League financial regulations. Offering a bumper wage package or inflated transfer fee is not as straightforward as it is for Al-Nassr.

From a fan’s point of view, there’s also a question of timing. If Wissa is genuinely high on the priority list, the club may need to act decisively before Brentford are swayed by Saudi millions. On the flip side, there’s always the risk of overpaying, especially when Brentford’s selling record shows they negotiate hard.

Ultimately, while there’s admiration for Wissa’s qualities, Newcastle fans would likely be hoping this doesn’t turn into another drawn-out chase that ends with the player heading elsewhere — something we’ve seen far too often in recent windows.
