Danilo’s career at Juventus has reached the point of no return, with Napoli growing confident of signing the Brazilian defender this winter. According to Calciomercato, the 33-year-old’s omission from the Supercoppa Italiana squad has been the final straw to break the camel’s back.
Despite lacking the services of Gleison Bremer and Juan Cabal, Juventus boss Thiago Motta refused to include the Bianconeri captain in his squad list. It proved a terrible choice as Milan ousted his side from the Super Cup semi-finals on Friday night, overturning a slender halftime deficit to claim a gutsy 2-1 win.
Meanwhile, Danilo has set one foot outside the Allianz Stadium. After making 213 appearances for Juventus, the former Manchester City defender is ready to wave goodbye to Turin. Napoli manager Antonio Conte is willing to offer the veteran star a lifeline in Serie A amid his search for a dependable defensive option.
Though in the autumn of his playing career, Danilo would be a massive coup for Napoli now that they bid to dethrone Inter in Serie A. Azzurri sporting director Giovanni Manna is Danilo’s long-term admirer and could seize this opportunity to lure the versatile defender to Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.
Out-of-favor center-back Rafa Marin could make way for the Juventus outcast after failing to register a single minute of top-flight action in the first half of the season. Napoli are open to letting their misfit leave in the coming weeks amid speculation linking him with Villarreal.
