Chelsea have reportedly switched their attention to a new striker target who they see as an upgrade to Nicolas Jackson this summer.

The news comes after Chelsea went down 2-0 against Newcastle United away from home on Sunday lunch time in a crucial game for the race for Champions League football next season.

Chelsea needed to win this game as much as Newcastle did, but a first half sending off by Nicolas Jackson did not help their cause. Enzo Maresca has admitted that Jackson now needs to learn from this situation moving forward.

Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher now believes that Chelsea have a big problem after this defeat with just two games remaining of the season and the reality being that The Blues need two wins to guarantee a place in the Champions League for next season.

Delap might not be feasible

It looks like Chelsea have real competition for Ipswich striker Liam Delap now with Manchester United also in for him.

So The Blues might need to look at alternatives to Delap, and they have apparently made contact again with the reps of one target as a real potential option this summer.

Chelsea in for Sesko

TEAMtalk are reporting that Chelsea have made fresh contact with the representatives of RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko.

They say that Delap figures highly on Chelsea’s shortlist. However, Man Utd are increasingly confident of signing Delap and are poised to trigger his £30m release clause, so the Blues may have to look elsewhere.

Apparently Sesko has long been admired by Chelsea sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart, who view him as a perfect transfer target and an upgrade on Nicolas Jackson.
