Bayern’s Pursuit of Luis Diaz: Transfer Heating Up

Bayern Growing in Confidence Over Diaz Deal

Bayern Munich’s chase for Luis Diaz appears to be accelerating, with Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg reporting “very positive talks” between the player and the German champions. Though no agreement has yet been reached between Liverpool FC and FC Bayern, the groundwork is clearly being laid.

To quote Plettenberg directly:

“We cannot confirm there is a breakthrough in negotiations between FC Bayern and Liverpool about Luis Diaz. I can only repeat what I have mentioned many times. To my clear understanding, he is a candidate for sale for Liverpool and he has a price.”

Crucially, it seems Bayern are aware of Liverpool’s valuation of the Colombian winger and are ready to act accordingly. A reported initial offer of around €67 million has already been lodged — and the Bundesliga giants are expected to return with an improved bid “very, very soon.”

Diaz Offered Long-Term Deal by Bayern

What’s particularly telling is the length and ambition of Bayern’s offer to Diaz. According to Sky Germany, the Bavarians have proposed a contract until at least 2029, underlining their faith in the player as a long-term solution on the left flank.

“Bayern Munich has presented him with the idea of giving him a contract until at least 2029.”

The positive tone of Bayern’s direct communication with Diaz suggests that personal terms won’t be a stumbling block — it’s now down to club-to-club discussions.

Barcelona Lurking, But Hindered by Financial Limits

Barcelona’s interest in Diaz has also been acknowledged, but as Plettenberg reports, their well-known registration issues make them a far less realistic option:

“They can pay the money for Luis Diaz, but they cannot register him and that is not very interesting for Diaz right now.”

Given the Blaugrana’s ongoing financial juggling act, Bayern have a clear pathway — both competitively and logistically — to close this deal.

Liverpool’s Position: Open for Business?

Despite being a fan favourite at Anfield, Diaz’s potential departure is no longer seen as out of the question. Liverpool’s recruitment under sporting director Richard Hughes and head coach Arne Slot may well include significant outgoings to fund incoming signings.

“He is a candidate for sale for Liverpool and he has a price.”

Liverpool have shown in the past they’re not afraid to sell key players if the terms are right — Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona being the prime example. Diaz’s situation feels eerily familiar.

Our View – Anfield Index Analysis

From a Liverpool fan’s perspective, the idea of selling Luis Diaz will raise eyebrows — and tempers. The Colombian winger has been one of the more consistent performers over the past two seasons. While he hasn’t yet fully hit world-class status, his energy, directness, and ability to disrupt defences make him an extremely valuable asset.

However, supporters are also pragmatic. If Bayern are willing to bid north of €70–75 million, and if Slot is looking to shape a more balanced squad — particularly with a view to reinforcing the midfield and defensive depth — then there’s logic in listening to offers. Diaz isn’t irreplaceable, and there’s already speculation around interest in players like Rodrygo, who could potentially slot into that left-sided role with a more direct goal threat.

The key concern from the fanbase will be: what is the plan after Diaz? Liverpool cannot afford to lose a player of his calibre without a guaranteed, ready-made replacement. The echoes of Firmino’s exit — and the transition struggles that followed — are still fresh. If Bayern do come back with a €75m+ bid, it could be seen as smart business — but only if the club immediately reinvests.
