Real Sociedad head coach Imanol Alguacil a candidate to replace Xabi Alonso at Bayer Leverkusen | OneFootball

Sky Germany reports that Real Sociedad head coach Imanol Alguacil is one of Bayer Leverkusen’s options for replacing Xabi Alonso in the summer.

The future of Alonso is becoming a bigger topic day by day as it increasingly looks like Carlo Ancelotti will leave his job as Real Madrid head coach in the summer, and Alonso is the number one target to replace him.

This means that Leverkusen has begun to search for a replacement in the event that Alonso leaves BayArena in the summer.

Alguacil is an option, and he would be available to join immediately in the summer, as he announced that he would leave Real Sociedad in the summer. Leverkusen CEO Fernando Carro is said to be a big fan of Alguacil, and he would follow a similar path to Alonso, swapping San Sebastian for the Rheinland.

German national team assistant coach Sandro Wagner has also previously been linked to the Leverkusen role, as well as the job at Hoffenheim. Whether he could replace Alonso at Leverkusen is yet to be seen. Last week, he announced that he would leave his role as Julian Nagelsmann’s assistant after the Nations League in the summer.
