Every summer, Real Madrid are faced with painful decisions over the future of academy stars who narrowly miss out on a chance to prove their worth with the first team.

Los Blancos’ financial soundness and well-stacked squad, after all, leaves little room for young academy stars to push for an audition. Many, thus, are forced to leave and look for newer pastures.

The ongoing transfer window is no different, and as has come to light in recent weeks, the talented Mario Martin appears to be on his way out of Real Madrid.

Imminent Departure

At just 20 years of age, Martin has left a strong impression on the Real Madrid management in recent years and even stands out as one of the few young players Carlo Ancelotti admires.

Earlier this month, in fact, it was reported that Martin was a good option to replace Dani Ceballos in the squad this summer if the Spaniard leaves the club.

Now, according to reports from Bernabeu Digital, the La Fabrica starlet is very close to sealing an exit from Real Madrid and has attracted interest from several first-division teams that guarantee a regular role.

The two options

The Spanish outlet brings to light that two newly promoted sides firmly have their eyes set on the 20-year-old – Real Valladolid and Espanyol.

The former, in fact, have already contacted Los Blancos and are in talks to secure the deal.

Martin is widely considered the ‘Casemiro’ of the academy especially given his tenacity, commitment to the crest and solidity in midfield. His departure, needless to say, will be a big blow to the club’s future plans.

Real Madrid have ensured to retain leverage over the future of departing young talents in recent years, either as a sell-on percentage or a buy-back clause. It remains to be seen which route the administration prefers in Martin’s case.
