Real Madrid veteran star Lucas Vazquez reflected on the team’s UEFA Champions League quarter-final elimination after losing both legs against Arsenal.

Having lost 3-0 at the Emirates in the first leg, Los Blancos failed to conjure up a fightback at the Santiago Bernabeu last night, falling to a 1-2 home defeat, and thus getting dumped out of the competition.

Vazquez promises fans to come back stronger

Speaking to the media after the game, Vazquez, who captained Real Madrid on the night, admitted that the team fell short on the pitch. However, he also delivered a message of optimism, assuring fans that they will return “stronger.”

“Just as we are all responsible when we win, we are also responsible when we lose. It is part of football. Madridistas know we always give everything, we leave everything on the pitch. Sometimes it works, sometimes it does not, but we always stand up,” said Vazquez.

“The atmosphere the fans created was incredible. We will come back stronger because Real Madrid always comes back,” he added.

Continuing, the veteran right-back stated: “It is a tough moment. We tried, but it was a difficult match. We did not create as many chances as we would have liked. We did not lose focus, but there were many interruptions.

“Those small moments that sometimes fall our way did not happen today, and in the end, we could not do what we set out to do.”

Vazquez, whose contract expires at the end of the season, acknowledged that Real Madrid lacked the quality needed to turn the tie around, especially after the 3-0 defeat in the first leg at the Emirates Stadium.

“Perhaps yes, we lacked clarity on the ball, patience at key moments, and the ability to move the ball from side to side to break down a well-organised defence,” said the Real Madrid captain.

“They came to defend, to do their job. They did almost nothing in the first half, and in the second, with us pushing forward, they found the win. We gave it our all,” he noted of Arsenal’s performance.

Despite the disappointment, he looked ahead with determination. Real Madrid trail Barcelona by four points in La Liga, face them in the Copa del Rey final, and also have the Club World Cup ahead.

“There is still a lot of the season to play. The team is united, in good shape, and eager to achieve what is left. We are going to work to win everything we can,” he concluded.
