Real Madrid superstar equals Messi’s record following MOTM performance vs Man City | OneFootball

Kylian Mbappe was the star of the show for Real Madrid as they blazed through the Manchester City defence to secure a 3-1 win at Santiago Bernabeu.

Real Madrid’s comprehensive win took the aggregate score to 6-3, with Mbappe starring in the second leg by scoring a hat-trick.

The Frenchman was indeed unplayable on the night, making life miserable for the Manchester City defence that struggled to contain the attacker.

Following his hat-trick, Mbappe takes his total goals tally this season to 27, about seven of which have come in the UEFA Champions League.

Mbappe equals Messi’s record

Apart from enhancing his goalscoring record this season, Mbappe’s three goals also helped equal Lionel Messi’s record in Europe – scoring most goals against Manchester City.

Up until last night, Messi had held the crown scoring more goals than any other player in the history of the Champions League – a total of seven goals. He was two goals ahead of former Real Madrid attacker Karim Benzema.

Mbappe, meanwhile, was sitting at four goals scored against Man City, one of which was scored during his time at Paris Saint-Germain while the other two were scored during his spell at AS Monaco.

But thanks to the hat-trick, the Frenchman’s tally now stands at seven goals, which equals Messi’s tally against Man City.

This is quite an impressive feat considering the fact that Mbappe has only faced Man City seven times in his career.

Messi, in contrast, had played eight matches against Man City, though the Argentine did bag a couple of more assists than Mbappe.
