A recent report from AS has shed light on the situation surrounding Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin.

The outlet mentions that despite renewing his contract earlier this year in September, Lunin remains open to considering offers from other clubs.

His current role at Real Madrid is clear: he is the backup goalkeeper, firmly behind Thibaut Courtois in the pecking order.

Lunin is still hoping

Lunin appears to hold on to the hope that once Courtois eventually leaves, an opportunity to become Madrid’s first-choice goalkeeper might arise.

However, the feeling within the club is that Courtois could have at least one more contract renewal in his future, which would complicate Lunin’s ambitions of becoming the number one.

In this context, Lunin has not ruled out the possibility of listening to offers in the coming years.

Real Madrid, too, seems to be open to exploring such options, especially since his renewal ensures they will not lose him for free.

As of now, there are no concrete offers on the table for Lunin, nor is the goalkeeper actively pursuing a move. Instead, his stance reflects a willingness to keep his options open.

Could have left last summer

Interestingly, last summer saw Lunin come close to a potential move to Chelsea. Despite Chelsea’s surplus of goalkeepers, the London club had shown genuine interest in signing him.

Real Madrid were open to negotiating a deal involving Kepa Arrizabalaga and additional cash, but the transfer never materialised.

This season has once again highlighted Lunin’s limited role at Real Madrid. Even with Courtois not performing at his peak, Lunin has not managed to break into the starting XI.

He remains a dependable backup goalkeeper but is not seen as a genuine competitor for Courtois’ position. While there is no immediate debate over Madrid’s first-choice goalkeeper, Lunin’s future remains a topic of personal reflection.

His contract extension until 2030 indicates his commitment to the club, but the door remains open for potential offers that could change his career trajectory.
