It is not new for Real Madrid’s administration to offer the squad monetary prizes for hitting certain targets in the season, notably large sums for winning various events.
To this point in the campaign, each player of Los Blancos has already earned a sum of €120,000 for winning the UEFA Super Cup, a further €150,000 for winning the Intercontinental Cup and €250,000 for beating Atletico Madrid in the UCL.
The FIFA Club World Cup, however, was Florentino Perez’s biggest dream and it is thus not surprising that he kept the largest cash prize for winning the tournament. Now, however, the player will not receive that sum after Wednesday’s drubbing.
Real Madrid fell to a 4-0 thrashing at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain last night and the game saw their campaign in the United States end at the final-four stage.
As relayed by Mundo Deportivo, the Real Madrid administration had promised each player a sum of €1 million should they win the tournament but will now not pay out that reward because the team fell short. The players, thus, will not receive the promised bonus.

It remains to be seen if they are given any different reward for making it to the semifinal stage, however, the decision seems only fair considering the difference in prize for winning the event and being knocked out in the semifinal.
Had Real Madrid won the event, they would have received a whopping €145 million. Their defeat last night, however, means that they are only entitled to €74 million and it is clear why the board do not see it right to gift out €1 million to each player.
This means Real Madrid save at least €25 million in bonus payments.
Given the campaign Real Madrid had, players earning a reward of €500,000 in itself is a large sum for the three aforementioned results. The priority now should simply be on rejuvenation and recovery ahead of a crucial season.
