La Liga giants Real Madrid have made the call not to renew the expiring contracts of two veteran members of the club’s backline.
That’s according to Diario AS, who point towards David Alaba and Antonio Rüdiger as the pair in question.
News of the decision not to afford the former a new deal should come as little surprise, with Alaba having long been struggling for form and fitness alike.
The update on Rüdiger, though, is altogether more head-turning.
Whilst the German did not enjoy his best season in 2024/25, he was heavily hampered by an injury complaint which ultimately forced Rüdiger under the knife.
Prior to as much, the former Chelsea man was widely considered the leader of Real Madrid’s backline.
As confirmed by AS, however, as Los Blancos set about further reducing the age of their squad:
‘Madrid aren’t planning to renew Rüdiger and Alaba, who have one year left on their contracts.’
