Following a flurry of activity in the summer window so far, Real Madrid are still searching for ways to improve their squad before the start of the new season.
There has been a lot of talk about investing in a new midfielder, with Manchester City star Rodri being touted as the club’s preferred target.
However, as things stand, Los Blancos do not intend to make a move for the Spanish international despite reports suggesting that a €115 million offer could be in the works.
Instead, according to Tomas Gonzalez-Martin of El Debate, if anyone else joins Real Madrid this summer, it will be another central defender – specifically, Ibrahima Konate.
The Liverpool centre-back’s contract expires in one year, and the Reds have set a price of €50 million to avoid losing him for free.

Real Madrid had planned to sign him on a free transfer next summer. However, Alonso’s insistence and the player’s desire to join immediately could accelerate the move.
The Merengues have made an initial offer of €25 million and are unlikely to raise it further. If no agreement is reached, they will wait another year.
However, the report states that any more signings would require Real Madrid to offload some players first. After all, the 25 slots in the first-team squad are filled at the moment.
The likes of Dani Ceballos, Rodrygo, and Fran Garcia have all been linked with summer exits, but there have been no offers for any players thus far.
With five weeks left in the transfer window, much can still change. But if any player arrives, it will be Konate, and for that to happen, sales will be needed.
