Aurelien Tchouameni is one of the few Real Madrid players who has been under tremendous pressure this season, and rightfully so given his inconsistency on the field.
Indeed, the Frenchman has served as a joker card for Carlo Ancelotti at a time of acute defensive crisis and even covered at centre-back, playing out of position on demand.
However, the fact remains that his inability to string together high-quality performances for a long period of time has come seriously under the radar. In fact, rumours earlier this season even linked him with a departure in the summer.
As relayed in a recent update by Defensa Central, there were a lot of doubts over the future of Tchouameni heading into Real Madrid’s clash against Manchester City whose second leg concluded last night.
The uncertainty over his situation affected his future and threw it into doubt, but his performances over the two legs against the Premier League champions has given him a lifeline and improved his image in the eyes of the club president Florentino Perez.

Tchouameni is now granted a new lease of life at the club for next season and the management are impressed by what he showed on the field playing back in the defensive midfield against Pep Guardiola’s side.
In fact, there are no longer any doubts about his future in the short term and the club is no longer considering selling him despite having registered interest from several clubs.
The 25-year-old did well playing as a central defender in Real Madrid’s first leg against the Premier League giants, repaying the faith shown by Ancelotti.
In the second leg, he was particularly impressive last night as the pivot. In 83 minutes, Tchouameni racked up one key pass, completed 91% of his passes and won four of the five duels he participated in.
Further, he even produced three accurate long balls, three interceptions and three tackles.
