According to a recent revelation made by SER, Vinicius Jr. has decided to put contract renewal talks on hold amid the news that he remains firm in his demand to become Real Madrid’s highest-paid player.
The Brazilian winger reportedly feels the next move must come from the club, despite the fact that both sides had made substantial progress in recent months.
Talks have stalled after Vinicius requested a salary equal to that of Kylian Mbappe to sign a new deal.
His entourage insists there was no misunderstanding over terms previously discussed, highlighting that the agreed salary stood at €20 million plus variables.
However, it appears the winger now wants his pay to match the club’s marquee signing.
What’s the story?
Vinicius’ current contract runs until 2027, so there is no urgent need for Real Madrid to act immediately.

Nonetheless, the club had been proactive in seeking an extension before negotiations hit this unexpected roadblock. For now, both sides are maintaining a respectful distance, with no tension reported.
With Xabi Alonso preparing to lead Real Madrid into a new era, the focus is now on the football.
Vinicius could still have an outstanding season, playing a key role in securing trophies, reconnecting with fans, and perhaps strengthening his case for an even bigger salary down the line.
Real Madrid value Vinicius
Real Madrid understand Vinicius’ value both on and off the pitch. He is considered a cornerstone of their long-term project, and the club has no doubts about his future.
While formal contract discussions may not resume until 2026, both parties are expected to come back to the table eventually, and when they do, an agreement should be straightforward.
For now, Madridistas can rest easy knowing that, despite the pause, Vinicius remains committed to the club and its ambitions.
