Real Madrid’s summer plans are becoming clearer, and among the many names linked to the club, Mallorca’s Leo Roman has emerged as a serious candidate to fill a crucial role between the posts.
According to Real Madrid Confidencial, the reigning European champions are closely monitoring the 24-year-old goalkeeper as a potential replacement for Andriy Lunin, whose future at the Santiago Bernabeu remains uncertain.
Lunin, who stepped up impressively during Thibaut Courtois’ long-term absence, has made a strong case for himself this season.
However, with Courtois now back and reclaiming the number one spot, the Ukrainian shot-stopper is reportedly seeking a club where he can play a more consistent starting role. A summer departure is highly plausible, and Real Madrid are preparing accordingly.
Enter Leo Roman. Although not the undisputed first-choice at Mallorca, the young goalkeeper has shown flashes of brilliance.
After returning from a loan spell at Real Oviedo, Roman has featured in limited minutes this season — just 720 — but has still managed to impress.

In that time, he’s conceded 13 goals and kept two clean sheets, with performances that have not gone unnoticed by the scouts in Valdebebas.
Roman’s profile ticks several boxes for Real Madrid. He is young, talented, and most importantly, available with a reported release clause of just €12 million.
For a club like Madrid, that figure is well within reach, especially for a position as crucial as goalkeeper. Moreover, Roman is unlikely to demand immediate first-team status, making him a perfect understudy to Courtois.
It is also worth noting that the club’s priority this summer is not necessarily goalkeeping. Florentino Perez and the sporting department are primarily targeting full-backs, centre-backs, and a potential reinforcement in midfield.
But with Lunin possibly on his way out, the need for a reliable backup cannot be ignored and Roman represents a smart, long-term solution.
