Gonzalo Garcia’s sensational form for Real Madrid in the FIFA Club World Cup has left him in a tricky, yet promising position ahead of next season.
After scoring four goals and providing one assist for Los Blancos in just six games in the event, the youngster has done enough to warrant a place in Xabi Alonso’s plans and has impressed the new manager.
The presence of Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Jr. as regular starters and only two attacking places up for grabs in the new system, however, raises doubts over whether he will indeed see minutes at the club and talks of a departure, thus, have not died down.
Garcia was all set to leave Real Madrid this summer, but his flourish at the recent event even caught him by surprise and has made it a real possibility that he earns a place under Alonso. As relayed by The Athletic, however, nothing has been finalised yet.

Garcia’s priority remains to be to continue at the club and a final decision is expected soon. After all, not only the player but the club must also decide if working together benefits all parties.
Earlier this week, Getafe president Angel Torres revealed that they had an agreement with Garcia to sign for Getafe if he did not earn a first-team spot with Real Madrid this season.
Should such an agreement exist, it will likely be a transfer with a buyback clause as was rumoured with the player before.
The coming week, thus, will be crucial in deciding Garcia’s future. Given Alonso’s desire to keep an out-and-out striker in his plans, there is indeed a good chance he will stay.
