RB Leipzig take interest in Köln’s Jan Thielmann | OneFootball

A Sky Germany report suggesting RB Leipzig are interested in plying Jan Thielmann away from FC Köln is gaining traction. The talented, versatile, and Bundesliga-savy 23-year-old has enjoyed success playing as a right back, winger, and even a ten. The cathedral city side could be persuaded to cash in on Thielmann as he sits on a contract set to expire at the end of next season.

Whether Thielmann himself has interest in leaving the cathedral city remains doubtful. The current Germany U21 international – together with club teammate Eric Martel – have achieved one half of their stated dream this year by helping Köln secure the 2. Bundesliga title. Now the two longtime friends and teammates are focused fully on winning the UEFA U21 European Championship.

Thielmann came up through the Kölner ranks and has never represented another club professionally. He contested 110 Bundesliga matches for die Geißböcke over the course of five seasons in the German top flight prior to Köln’s 2023/24 relegation.

Represented professionally by family, it seems likelier that Thielmann will wish to extend his contract.

Köln’s reliable Geißblog fan site reports that the club has made extending with Thielmann a priority.
