Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund has acknowledged that he hasn’t been good enough this season, attributing his struggles to the team’s poor overall form.
Hojlund netted 16 goals in all competitions during his first year at United but he has failed to fire this term.
The Danish forward has managed only three goals in the Premier League and eight in total across both the top-flight and the Europa League.
He has registered just 21 shots in the Premier League this season, with 133 players having attempted as many or more efforts on goal than him.
Hojlund was poor again on Thursday as United were held to a 2-2 draw by Lyon in the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final tie. The 22-year-old fluffed a big opportunity in the first half that could have given his side the lead.
The United man spoke to Premier League Productions [as quoted by the Daily Mail] and opened up on the burden of leading the line for the Red Devils.
He said, “It’s short-term. We know what this football club means, and the DNA is so sewn into the shirt.”
“I wouldn’t have signed here if I didn’t know that. I wouldn’t have taken the number nine shirt in the summer if I didn’t think I wanted to have that sort of pressure.”
“I think, with it not being the best season, I’ve also struggled with it at some point. But again, it’s about finding your way and keep doing the things that got you here.”
“But also working on the things you think you should improve, and that’s what I’m always trying to do.”
There have been suggestions that United are keen on offloading Hojlund during the upcoming transfer window. He has been linked to a return to Italy, with Napoli and Juventus mentioned as interested parties in his signature.
A report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that United want €60 million to sanction Hojlund’s sale.
