Rangers’ new CEO may be tasked with firing Clement

Rangers have engaged the curious act of (slightly) protecting new CEO Patrick Stewart by ensuring his commence date will follow both Rangers’ gigantic clashes with Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League, and Celtic in the League Cup final.

With chances of good results in either of these matches being modest at best, the new CEO might already feel under pressure to ‘do something’ about manager Philippe Clement in the wake of them, so the club has decided to allow him to begin his new employment once both of those matches are ‘out of the way’.

The one caveat is that once both matches are done, Rangers fans will very much know where the club stands with regards that colossal double-header, and pressure may well be even greater on Clement, pressuring Stewart into a potential decision.

If Rangers lose badly in both matches, Stewart may find his first job as CEO is to fire the manager, which would be very much into the fire of a job for the former Man Utd supremo.

As we jokingly hinted earlier, firing Clement would certainly be a way to get Rangers fans onside with Stewart for sure!

But yes, the new boss starts on the 16th, the day after the League Cup final – it could be a staggering time to become the boss, especially if by a miracle Rangers lift the trophy.

And the opposite, if we lose, would he now be under pressure?

Against Spurs there will be no pressure on Stewart, but there may be on the club – and of course that particular clash is up against Angie again, with the former Celtic manager returning to Ibrox for the first time, especially buoyed up on his colossal win v Man City.

So it’s a free hit for Rangers, really.

But Stewart will have nothing to deal with after that one, thankfully for him.

But the day after Celtic?

Different story.
