One of the strongest polls we’ve seen in recent weeks on Ibrox Noise was the question of whether fans would like to see former Rangers defender Niko Katic back at Ibrox—and the response was absolutely emphatic.
With almost 600 votes cast, the majority came in heavily in favour of a return for the popular Croatian stopper. It’s clear that despite leaving Rangers back in 2022, Katic still holds a special place in the hearts of the supporters, and many believe he has unfinished business in Govan.
Katic, best remembered for that towering header at Parkhead back in 2019, was always a fan favourite for his heart-on-sleeve performances and fearless attitude. We discussed that iconic moment in more detail in this feature on Katic’s Rangers impact. His departure under Gio van Bronckhorst left many feeling short-changed, and it seems time has only strengthened the affection supporters feel for him.
Of course, the defensive department at Rangers remains a huge talking point. With players like Clinton Nsiala failing to convince, and the backline lacking the physical presence it once had, the clamour for Katic’s return is growing louder. We highlighted the ongoing defensive issues in this recent analysis.
The big question, however, is whether the new manager—whoever that may be—will share the fans’ enthusiasm. As we explored here, the managerial situation remains unresolved, and any future signings will depend heavily on the vision of the incoming gaffer.
For now, though, the fans have spoken loud and clear. Whether or not the Rangers board or incoming manager will act on that is another matter entirely. But as per Football Insider, Rangers are well aware of the growing calls to address the defence this summer, and it wouldn’t be the biggest surprise if Katic’s name is at least discussed in the corridors of power.
Would you welcome him back to Ibrox? Judging by the poll, most of you already do.
