If a recent report from Sky Sports (as quoted by The Daily Record) is believed to be true, Rangers are keeping close tabs on Hull City winger Abu Kamara ahead of a potential summer move. Kevin Thelwell and Russell Martin are leveraging their connections south of the border and raiding the Championship to secure several emerging English football prospects.
The 21-year-old England youth international progressed through Norwich City’s academy ranks before breaking into their senior side late in the 2022–23 campaign. He was then loaned out to Portsmouth in League One for regular minutes, and the youngster made his presence known en route to clinching promotion by conquering the league crown.
Kamara started the 2024-25 season as a first-team regular for the Canaries, but the Tigers snapped him up for £4.5m late in the summer window. Although they narrowly escaped a relegation scare, Kamara continued to flourish with 6 goals and 4 assists in 40 appearances across competitions [stats via Transfermarket].
While his numbers might not seem impressive enough, Hull’s lack of firepower high up the pitch resulted in wastefulness and a lack of conversion. Their financial crisis should allow the Light Blues to engage in negotiations on favourable terms, as they have done with Sheffield Wednesday by roping in Djeidi Gassama. The Glasgow giants are also assessing a reunion with Josh Windass, as the cash-strapped Owls might lose many senior names, having failed to pay their players and staff on three occasions over the past four months.

Rangers are going through a squad overhaul following the Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises takeover. Thelwell, the newly-appointed director of football, has convinced Martin to take up the managerial role. But the former Southampton boss must reconstruct the first-team line-up, particularly before their crucial UEFA Champions League qualifier against Panathinaikos later this month.
Rangers have lost an array of key individuals all over the pitch. They have strengthened their defence and midfield by tying down Max Aarons, Emmanuel Fernandez, Nasser Djiga, Lyall Cameron and Joe Rothwell; however, the exit of Tom Lawrence and Ianis Hagi following contract expiry, along with Vaclav Cerny’s return to Wolfsburg in the aftermath of a blistering loan stint, decimated them in and around the attacking third.
Moreover, the Gers are sweating over the future of Cyriel Dessers and Hamza Igamane amid growing interest from AEK Athens and Lille. But the gaffer has yet to snap up an outright ‘number 9’, as he is focusing on wide areas for now, with Gassama and the Crystal Palace prospect Jesurun Rak-Sakyi being the other targets. The latter’s asking fee is a stumbling block in pursuing a transfer, and signing Kamara, therefore, could be a shrewd business due to his flair and finesse from the right-hand flank.
