Rangers board makes major call on Dave King’s return

Gambar artikel:Rangers board makes major call on Dave King’s return

After former chairman Dave King threw his hat in the Rangers ring as new chairman, it was confirmed by club sources that that will NOT be happening after the current board unofficially swished the idea away.

King put his name in the ballot box on TalkSport after he confirmed he would be happy to return as chairman for a couple of years to steady the ship, suggesting that a stranger wasn’t the right person to replace outgone chairman John Bennett.

We don’t completely disagree, but then John Gilligan isn’t a stranger, is he?

Indeed, King’s dismissal of Gilligan by overlooking the fact the ex-board man and former Three Bears member, like himself, is currently acting chairman and may even be interested in the job full time is more than a bit insulting, and while we had initial reticence in him as being in the position, the fact King extolled himself as ‘familiar’ does make a good case for Gilligan as well.

But it is clearly (unofficially) official that King is not welcome back on Rangers’ board, and once again it’s a case of someone mouthing off into the press about wanting to do a Rangers job that 100% confirms Rangers will not be interested in them.

It was the same with so many in the past, we’ve never once seen someone make a media play for a Rangers job or position and then get it. It doesn’t happen.

Our thoughts on this?

Dave King has had his time – while we were vaguely supportive of him coming back to steady Rangers’ ship for a while, we say give John Gilligan a chance (ffs) to see what he can do, how robustly he can steer things.

No one gives Gilligan a lot of credit but he’s quietly been there for years, on and off, and has frankly never let the club down.

He’s a pretty safe pair of hands for now.
