Overall, it has been a successful international break for the Aston Villa players. The main thing is that no one has injured themselves, and those that didn't travel to Dubai had some good moments. One aspect that remains is the need for those who have a legitimate chance to feel that their club play can set them up for a call-up.
It becomes more tenuous when, in this case, decisions by Unai Emery also affect choices made by Thomas Tuchel. Marcus Rashford and Morgan Rogers both made the squad for England's matches against Albania and Latvia. The roles don't necessarily directly overlap, however. Both are capable of being members of both starting XIs and aren't competing with each other at the similar positions.
According to an article in the Telegraph that was attributed to Matt Law, Jason Burt, and Mike McGrath, AVFC player Jacob Ramsey was nearly part of the most recent Three Lions selection. This becomes something of a point of contention when looking to make an impression on Tuchel while sitting on the bench due to a potential permanent Rashford signing.
There doesn't appear to be much of a clash for either club or country between Rogers and Rashford. Granted, both are versatile enough to play in various areas of the pitch, but it doesn't seem to be anything of a conflict.
Ramsey, on the other hand, finds himself on the outside looking in in both situations. Converting the current loan deal of Rashford to something long-term would give Emery another option to which he would be highly inclined to play the person who has found his way to Villa via Manchester United. After all, he's done well, and bringing in someone at his price tag to be a club mainstay would garner a solidified starting selection consideration. This would be especially true if he continued his improved form.
Depending on other transfers, Ramsey could even drop even more in the rotation. Keeping driven players with quality all under the same badge can be a very delicate balancing act that is often difficult to maintain.
Three AVFC players made it to the starting role against Latvia. There is a chance that there could be an added fourth, with three attacking players. More likely than not, however, there won't be enough minutes to divide up. Ramsey is under contract for another two years at Aston Villa. Player dynamics can be tricky components to navigate. As a competitor, the seven-year-tenured player with the club will likely sit uneasy having to watch England in these past World Cup qualifiers.
