The powers that be at La Liga giants Barcelona have reopened talks with their counterparts at Girona, over a summer deal for Pau Víctor.

That’s according to Diario Sport, who have on Friday provided an update on the situation.

Frontman Víctor, for his part, linked up with Barcelona last summer, as part of a season-long loan from neighbours Girona.

And, safe to say, the 22-year-old went on to make his presence very much felt in Catalunya’s capital.

All told, across 39 appearances for Rafa Márquez’s Barca Atlètic, he racked up a head-turning 26 direct goal contributions.

As much came by way of 20 goals and six assists, enough for Víctor to secure for himself top-scorer status for the Blaugrana’s reserve outfit.

With the youngster having even been called up for first-team duties by Xavi on a number of occasions, it therefore came as something of a surprise when the deadline for Barcelona to activate their buy option on Víctor came and went.

The assumption, in turn, was that the striker was all set for a return to base with Girona.

As alluded to above, though, if the latest word stemming from the media on Friday is anything to go by, a twist could yet be in the tale.

As per Sport, ‘Barca is again negotiating for the player’.

As much comes at the direct request of Rafa Márquez, who has assured the brass at the club that investing in Víctor would prove a shrewd business decision.

The operation is no longer as straightforward as the activation of a purchase clause, but could form part of a larger deal, amid ongoing discussions between Barcelona and Girona regarding all of Oriol Romeu, Eric García, and Pablo Torre.
