For weeks now it has seemed that Sergio Conceicao’s fate is marked, but the chances of him staying at AC Milan are apparently increasing.

This morning’s edition of Quotidiano Sportivo (via PianetaMilan) has an interesting update regarding the future of Conceição. Virtually every major source have reported that he will leave at the end of the season, and our recent exclusive revealed that the club might not even have a say.

There have been a number of potential successors mentioned from Massimiliano Allegri to Vincenzo Italiano, Carlo Ancelotti to Antonio Conte, Maurizio Sarri to Roberto De Zerbi. Conceicao is aware of the rumours, and has hit out at them in the recent past.

Working through the noise

In the meantime, before the season ends and the final verdicts arrive, Conceicao is working with his head down with the aim of giving everything in the finale. Everything is centred around the dream of winning a second trophy in what will have been just five months in charge.

In the season of paradoxes, the newfound solidity with the 3-4-3 and the potential to obtain a Europa League spot by lifting the cup for the first time since 2004 could change the cards on the table. Geoffrey Moncada even hinted at it before Genoa-Milan.

“It’s not like that. We have faith in him. He brought the right mentality. He’s a worker, he works hard every day at Milanello with his staff. It has nothing to do with the Coppa Italia, it’s something else. We’re happy with him,” he said.

Conceição will have heard Moncada’s statements, but what will have boosted him more is that another comeback came on the field to earn a fourth win in five games. Now, his chances of staying at Milan for 2025-26 (and possibly beyond) are rising.
