QPR are looking to sign a centre-back from the German giants

QPR are reportedly keen on signing 21-year-old Bayern Munich centre-back Liam Morrison as Marti Cifuentes looks to strengthen his squad this summer.

A report from West London Sport states Morrison is on the Hoops' radar, with the Scottish defender spending the 23/24 campaign on loan with Wigan Athletic, clearly doing enough during his time with the Latics to attract the interest of Cifuentes.

The 21-year-old sees his contract with Bayern expire next summer, and with the player still yet to make a first-team breakthrough at the Allianz Arena, perhaps they'll be willing to cash in on him this summer.

Morrison, who came through the ranks at Celtic before joining Bayern at 16, had previously played for Bayern II in the Regionalliga Bayern, the fourth tier of German football, and despite being named in the matchday squad for Bayern's first-team previously, he's yet to make his debut.

Morrison had his first taste of first-team football with Wigan Athletic last season, and he impressed, making 35 appearances in total for the Latics.

It's clear that his time with Wigan would have helped him develop hugely as a player, and he may not want to go back to playing for Bayern's reserve team after experiencing regular first-team football in England.

If Morrison were to join QPR, he may not be a regular starter straight away, but he'd be a good squad depth option for Cifuentes, and at 21, he's only likely to grow and improve in the years to come.

Morrison is clearly a talented player, otherwise he wouldn't be playing for Bayern Munich, and whilst he may have never made a first-team appearance, he was trusted by Thomas Tuchel to sit on the bench for a league fixture during the 2022/23 season.

It's highly unlikely that Morrison will break into the first-team at Bayern next season, so it makes sense for all parties if he was to leave this summer with just one-year left on his deal.

Having come through the ranks at both Celtic and Bayern Munich, Morrison has come from good stock, and a move back to England to play first-team football seems like the right move for him this summer.

QPR need defensive reinforcements this summer

As it stands, QPR look pretty thin at centre-backs for next season, so it's clear that they'll need signings through the door over the summer.

The Hoops have Jimmy Dunne, Jake Clarke-Salter and Steve Cook as their only senior central defender options, and Cifuentes will need to bolster that in the coming months.

From that perspective, it makes sense for QPR to add Morrison to their squad as depth, as the youngster may not be capable of being a regular Championship starter just yet, but would be a good addition to the squad.
