Gianfranco Zola has really ramped up his exposure as a pundit recently.
The Chelsea legend was all over the Sky Sports coverage of Chelsea’s win over Newcastle at Stamford Bridge two weeks ago, with his comments about Cole Palmer leading to comparisons between the two.
His comments to the BBC after that game were in the same vein, and the Italian has been one of the most positive voices about this season so far under Enzo Maresca.
Zola is a big fan of his countryman and of the progress the Blues have made this season already. His comments picked up by TalkSport make that very clear. He picked out a few things which he thought were making the difference this year:
“There is a lot of stability on the pitch [now at Chelsea]. Above all, there is a structure in place. And this structure is getting better and better every week. I can see something,” Zola explained.
Packed Chelsea preseason training, group generic.
He also gave the perspective of a football playing in a team under these circumstances, showing how positive the feelings must be when you feel that the team you play in is going in the right direction:
“When you are a footballer, you can understand when a coach is doing a good job with a team, and you can see that it is growing, is getting better all the time. I see improvements every week. I watch them play. And so far, I think everyone at Chelsea is very happy about what is what is happening.”
The career of a footballer is short, and we’ve all seen how quickly things can go sour if they think their precious potential is being wasted. Right now, the opposite will be true at Stamford Bridge.
