PSV have completed the transfer of goalkeeper Nick Olij. The 29-year-old goalkeeper joins from Sparta Rotterdam and has signed a four-year contract with the Eredivisie champions.
Olij impressed at Sparta Rotterdam in recent seasons, even earning his place among numerous Oranje selections. He attracted the interest of PSV, which had to adjust to the departure of Walter Benitez.
“With Nick we get an excellent option for the place under the bar”, says PSV Director of Football Affairs Earnest Stewart. “He is a very strong player and fits in very well with the philosophy that we and our coach advocate.”
Olij also thinks he is in the right place at PSV. “A dream has come true. I have been looking forward to this day when I could sign my name. After Sparta-PSV I was told that the club wanted to take it seriously. After that, I spoke to the trainer about what my contribution could be, about the way of playing. That gave me a good feeling. We are starting from scratch. It is up to me to show that I fit into the team.”
Formerly of NAC Breda and Jong AZ, Olij played a total of 110 matches for Sparta in a fine three-year stint. PSV reportedly paid a transfer fee of three million euros set in his contract.
