Luis Enrique doesn’t have to worry about his job in the dugout at Paris Saint-Germain, despite the Spaniard coming in for criticism for the club’s struggles in the UEFA Champions League.
After four matchdays, Les Parisiens are currently on course for elimination from the competition, with the club sitting 25th, having claimed just four points in four fixtures.
Despite the 2023-24 Champions League semi-finalists being in danger of an early elimination from that tournament, his position with the reigning Ligue 1 champions is not in jeopardy.
According to club president, Nasser Al-Khelaifi, how they fare in the opening phase of the Champions League will not affect Luis Enrique’s job status at PSG.
“We won’t change anything. I said it: we have a lot of confidence in our coach. He’s doing a very good job with Luís Campos. Will they extend? I have confidence they will.”
Les Parisiens will head to Allianz Arena on Tuesday to face Bayern Munich, having lost their last three Champions League contests away from home, failing to score in their only one this season versus Arsenal (2-0).
PSG are the only French team currently outside the top 24 in that competition, which comes with a place in the knockout round.
In early November, they lost their previous Champions League affair at home versus Atlético Madrid (2-1).
Luis Enrique’s men have won five consecutive Ligue 1 fixtures, including a convincing 3-0 triumph over Toulouse FC on Friday, giving them a six-point cushion at the top of the table after 12 matchdays.
