Speaking to the mainstream media at the weekend after Celtic collected the Scottish Premiership trophy following the 1-1 draw with St Mirren at Celtic Park, Idah started by looking back at that brilliant winner in last season’s Scottish Cup Final.

“Obviously it was a special moment for me”

“Yes, obviously it was a special moment for me,” he said as reported by Daily Record. “It was great to get the winner. It was my last game for the club when I was on loan, so it was a special and proud moment for me. It’s exciting to go back there and hopefully we can go and win it again.

“It’s something you don’t even dream of. It’s one of those things that’s so amazing that it’s hard to take it in. It took me a while to realise what I’d done. I’ve watched the video so many times. It was an unbelievable feeling to do that against them in that manner. It was amazing,” the Celtic striker admitted.

“How often do people remind me of it? Quite a bit, to be fair. A lot. Like I said, it’s one of those moments you don’t really dream of. It was a very special moment. The last minute was amazing. It’s good to be reminded of it, but at the same time, I’ve got to stay focused. I know those opportunities don’t come around often.

“I’ve just got to focus on the next task and hopefully we can go and do it next week.”

“Although we’ve won the league early on, we didn’t want to cruise through it”

Idah has been impressed at how Celtic under the leadership of Brendan Rodgers have gone about their business since the title was secured up a Tannadice a few weeks ago, ensuring that there was no chance of any  complacency setting in, with the Scottish Cup Final always the biggest objective since 4IAR was achieved.

“I think that’s what the staff and us players have done brilliantly. Although we’ve won the league early on, we didn’t want to cruise through it. We still had our own targets that we wanted to achieve. We didn’t want to take any game easy. We want to build momentum going into the cup finals. It’s to stick with it. Let’s just keep grinding through.”

Adam Idah accepts that the players’ summers will either be made or ruined by the outcome of the Scottish Cup Final on Saturday and that obviously provides extra motivation to make sure it’s the familiar sight of green and white ribbons going around the trophy come 5pm on Scottish Cup Final day. David Potter used to point out that the Scottish Cup was always Celtic’s favourite trophy and one that we’ve won more than any other club or assortment of clubs.

“Yes, 100 per cent. It can make it difficult, but flip it to the other side. You win it and you’re going into the start of the season on a high. It’s something we’re all looking forward to. It should be really exciting,” Idah said as he looked towards increasing his quickly increasing medal haul as he looks for medal number five after collecting his fourth on Saturday at Trophy Day.

“It’s what Celtic is about. I think you have to cherish every time you win something”

“I think it’s the fourth now, yes. It’s good. I’ve said it plenty of times, it’s not many times that you win trophies and get medals in your career. To have a couple under the belt now is great. It’s what Celtic is about. I think you have to cherish every time you win something. I know I was on loan here last year, but I felt like I was part of the group.

“I think you still have that same feeling every time you win something. Even speaking to Cal, James, they’ve won so much but it’s still that same feeling of winning trophies. You’ve got to embrace it, you’ve got to enjoy it and hopefully there’s more to come.”

Trophy Day was extra-special for everyone inside Celtic Park and indeed in the wider Celtic family around the world for the way that it finished.  Idah too appreciated that magical moment in the last minute of stoppage time.

“It was brilliant for all the fans, players, staff. It’s unbelievable to enjoy”

“It was brilliant. A fantastic day. Unfortunately, we didn’t get the win, but it was probably written in the stars for Jamesy to score that goal. It was brilliant for all the fans, players, staff. It’s unbelievable to enjoy. We’ve worked hard all season, so it’s well deserved. We know we can play so much better. It was just one of those games. Probably the occasion got the better of us.

“Like the manager does say, it’s important not to lose the game. I think that’s what we’ve done well this season. If we can’t win it, don’t lose it. It’s a credit to the boys who finished off the game. They put in a tough shift and kept going right to the very end.”

Cork calling for Adam Idah’s homecoming with Celtic

Idah has been  front and centre of Celtic’s promotional activities for the pre-season friendly against Cork City at the SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh on Tuesday 8 July. As a Cork native, Idah is certainly looking forward to his extra-special homecoming.

“I’m really looking forward to it,” he said.  “I haven’t played back home since I was 16 or 17. To come back with Celtic is going to be amazing. To see everyone there supporting.

“I don’t know which team they’re going to support, Cork City or Celtic. It should be a fantastic occasion. I honestly didn’t know Celtic was that big back home until I signed here. It’s amazing the amount of people you see with Celtic tops on. Even the flights coming over, it’s brilliant. Going back home is unbelievable.”
