However, their next test sees them welcome the relentless Magpies, who will fancy their chances of coming away with a win following their confidence-boosting success over Manchester United at the weekend.

Second-half goals from Joe Willock and Callum Wilson ensured Eddie Howe’s side got their Carabao Cup revenge over the Red Devils at St James’ Park, and they will look to extend their three-game winning streak at the expense of the struggling Hammers.

West Ham boss David Moyes has been on the verge of losing his job several times this season, but the Scotsman has remained steadfast in the fight to save his job.

He was at it once again in the success over bottom-placed Southampton, locking up shop after Nayef Aguerd rose highest, connecting to Thilo Kehrer’s free-kick to score his first goal in a Hammers shirt midway through the first half.

The result moved West Ham up to 14th place, but they will do well to heed the warnings of goalkeeper Lucasz Fabianski who has called on his side to remain focused in their bid to avoid the drop.

Just one point separates them from the bottom three, and they could just as easily drop back into danger if they fail to muster a positive result in the midweek encounter.

West Ham are now undefeated in their last five games at the London Stadium, picking up 11 points from a possible 15 in front of their home supporters.

The Hammers have also kept an impressive three clean sheets in this run, as many as they had in their previous 16 home league matches.

Moyes will hope for more of the same from his side, and their record against Newcastle should also boost their morale as they are unbeaten in their last three league meetings with the Magpies (W1, D2).

West Ham have managed just seven wins from their 27 league games this season, while only five sides have scored fewer goals than Moyes’s side this term.

However, their goalscoring form will matter little at this crucial stage of the campaign, with grinding out results by whatever means necessary now the focus.

They can take confidence from their solidity at the back as they boast the best defensive record of the nine sides embroiled in the relegation scuffle.

But having shipped in 34 goals this term, the London outfit could struggle to extend their run of clean sheets when the in-form Newcastle storm east London.

The Magpies took a huge stride in their quest for a Champions League berth when they swatted aside Erik ten Hag’s toothless Red Devils on home turf in a hugely impressive result that matched their performance.

Having endured a tricky five-game winless run between February and early March (D2, L3), the Tyneside outfit have rediscovered their early-season form in recent weeks, winning three games on the trot to put themselves in a strong position to finish in the top four.

Goalkeeper Nick Pope was forced into just one save against United, but it was enough to record a league-high 13th clean sheet, meaning Newcastle still boast the best defensive record in the division, having conceded seven goals fewer than Manchester City.

Despite West Ham’s newfound home form, Newcastle stand every chance of coming away from London with maximum points, having won ten league games on Hammers turf. They have only won more away games against Tottenham Hotspur in the competition (11).

Their form in London also bodes well for their chances, as they are unbeaten in four league games at the English capital this season (W2, D2). They last went five unbeaten between May 2013 and January 2014.

Team News

Moyes has no fresh injury concerns to worry about after coming away from Sunday’s match-up unscathed.

Gianluca Scamacca is the only doubt for the Hammers as the Italian striker continues to recover from a knee issue, leaving Danny Ings and Michail Antonio as options to lead the line.

Goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski returned from a four-week injury lay-off to keep a clean sheet against Southampton and should retain his spot in the midweek encounter.

Newcastle will be without the in-form Miguel Almiron, who remains sidelined through injury, while Emil Krafth looks set to miss the rest of the season due to a ligament tear.

Jacob Murphy should continue to deputise for Almiron on the right flank, although Howe could decide to hand Anthony Gordon a starting berth.

Joelinton should also be available, having served his suspension but may consider an unchanged midfield considering how effective Bruno Guimaraes, Sean Longstaff and Joe Willock were against United.

West Ham United potential starting line-up:

(4-3-3): Lucasz Fabianski; Thilo Kehrer, Kurt Zouma, Nayef Aguerd, Emerson Palmieri; Thomas Soucek, Declan Rice, Lucas Paqueta; Jarrod Bowen, Danny Ings, Said Benrahma.

Newcastle United potential starting line-up:

(4-3-3): Nick Pope; Kieran Trippier, Fabian Schar, Sven Botman, Dan Burn; Sean Longstaff, Bruno Guimaraes, Joe Willock; Jacob Murphy, Alexander Isak, Allan Saint-Maximin.

How to Watch?

West Ham vs Newcastle, alongside all other fixtures in England’s top flight, is available to watch online via live Premier League streams.

We Say: West Ham United 1-2 Newcastle United

Eleven of West Ham’s last 13 league wins have been at the London Stadium, including each of their last six, so Moyes’ side have every chance of stunning the high-flying Magpies.

However, Howe’s side have lost just two away games all season. They have also scored twice in each of their last three wins.

While West Ham have been solid in front of their home supporters, Newcastle should feed off their recent results and rally to a fourth successive victory.
