West Bromwich and Luton Town face off this Saturday at The Hawthorns in the EFL Championship. The match will be broadcast live at 12:30 on Sky Sports Football.
The Baggies have 61 points to their name this season and sit 10th in the table, safe but with their hopes of making the play-offs in tatters. After showing Tony Mowbray the door, James Morrison took charge of the Baggies as they drew 0-0 with Cardiff City last time out.
Luton, meanwhile, lie in 21st position and hugely boosted their survival hopes with a 1-0 win against Coventry in their last game.
The last meeting between the two teams ended in a 1-1 draw.
AlllAlbionFans : We’ve spent 99% of the last 25 years either in the Premier League or with a chance of promotion.
It’s rare for us to play a game with no stake. That’s certainly not what this is for Luton Town. The Hatters know if they match what Hull City do then they are safe.
It’s weird going from cheering them on in the last two games against Bristol City and Coventry City to now playing them and hoping they lose. We were in walkabout Cardiff for the injury time goal they scored last week and cheered it on as did a lot in the away end from what I hear.
I really don’t know how Luton have ended up in this predicament. Teams that get promoted and relegated between the Premier League and Championship usually go the other way nowadays. It’s a long time since teams have double dipped.
James Morrison will be in charge in the dugout for the 1st time at The Hawthorns. He has been an integral part of our club for 18 years and he will want to win this one.
Some fans want to see some youth given a chance over players on loan or leaving but I still don’t think it will happen. Molumby is likely to come in after a 3 game suspension and illness.
I’ve got to say Luton is my least favourite away day in the league so I’m hoping we can relegate them for that reason.
If Hull City lose then we could end up with a situation where Albion win but it’s the away end that’s going barmy.
The drama of the last day always throws up some twists and turns. I just wish they affected us.
Prediction: 1-1
Simon Holden : So. Here we go. A 46th and final Championship game with everything on the line. Win and we stay up. Hull lose and we stay up. Draw and we might stay up. Lose and we might stay up. Fail to turn up and we might go down. Again. Madness. But we’ll snap your hand off for the chance.
Not that many weeks ago we were cut adrift. No form, no fight, no hope. That’s changed in recent weeks and thank Ricky Hill it has. We’re a different side now. Last Saturday’s heart-busting last gasp win against Coventry was typical Luton. Unforgettable. Comical. Magical. Staggering. The euphoria from that moment, together with the renewed confidence, spirit, determination, resilience, and quality should assist us in getting the job done at The Hawthorns this Saturday lunchtime. It won’t be enjoyable.
Eyes will be elsewhere at times. There’ll be a lot of sweat, stress, and squirming. Will there be tears? I don’t think so. The momentum is with Luton and the belief is well and truly back. And West Brom might already be on the beach.
Critically, an in-form Liam Walsh is now available and he can be the difference by orchestrating the side to a final crucial victory. I think Luton will win the game by two clear goals. If that happens, expect an 80 year old gentleman in beige suit and matching slip-on shoes to run and skip into the fray at the final whistle.
The Great Luton Town Escape has happened before and I can see history repeating itself. Up the Hatters.
