Manchester United are looking for a third consecutive victory in all competitions when they host Tottenham Hotspur at Leigh Sports Village this afternoon. The Red Devils enter the clash following their 2-0 win over rivals Liverpool in the Women’s League Cup.
Man United are enjoying a positive start to the 2024/25 season, having thrashed West Ham 3-0 in their WSL opener at Old Trafford, before edging out a narrow 1-0 win over Everton. Marc Skinner’s side have had plenty of time to reflect on those three victories, after their clash with Chelsea last Sunday was postponed due to the Blues’ Champions League schedule.
As a result, United will be well rested for their first competitive meeting with Tottenham Hotspur this season.
Spurs are looking for a positive response after falling to a 3-2 defeat in their most recent WSL outing against Liverpool.
Tottenham have had a mixed start to the season, producing two wins, one draw and a defeat in all competitions. Robert Vilahamn’s side started off their campaign with a dominant 4-0 win over WSL newcomers Crystal Palace, before salvaging a point in a 2-2 draw away at Aston Villa. Spurs are currently seventh in the WSL table, two points behind United in fourth.
Tottenham will be taking a four-game unbeaten away league run into Sunday’s match. They have settled for a 2-2 draw in each of their last three WSL away fixtures, including their trip to Leigh Sports Village Stadium back in April.
Man United remain without the service of Anna Sandberg and Emma Watson, who are both doubts. Melvine Malard will also have to be assessed after being forced off in their League Cup win over Liverpool. Meanwhile, defender Evie Rabjohn is still absent and working on her rehabilitation from an anterior cruciate ligament injury.
Spurs midfielder Kit Graham is a long-term absentee after also suffering an ACL injury in pre-season. Shuang Wang and Amy James-Turner are also set to miss out. Celine Bizet could have a role to play in this fixture after leaving Tottenham for Manchester United in the summer.
