Leeds United Women kick off the FA WNL Division One North season with an exciting clash on home soil with Chorley Women on Sunday.

The curtain raiser pits two teams together that enjoyed strong campaigns last term with just two points separating third-place Chorley and the fourth-placed Whites.

Simon Wood’s team did the double over the Lancashire opposition in the previous term, beginning with a hard-fought 3-2 victory on the road. Then on the penultimate weekend, Leeds dominated with an emphatic 4-1 victory at the Bannister Prentice Stadium.

In that encounter in Garforth, Player of the Season Amy Woodruff was on target for United, scoring a powerful volley that helped the forward win the league’s Golden Boot award after a stellar season in front of goal.

The fixture may give fans a chance to see Chloe Dixon, Brittany Sanderson and Alayna Millard in action for the club for the first time, after the trio linked up with Wood’s squad in the summer.

Pre-season has been gruelling for the Whites as preparations ramped up for Sunday’s opener which included victory over Doncaster Rovers Belles to retain the Julie Chipchase Memorial Trophy.

Action from the Bannister Prentice Stadium gets underway at 2pm.

The view from inside the camp:

Ahead of the match, forward Amy Woodruff said: “I feel like it has been ages since the last game in the league. Just to get back at it and be with the team, it is going to be exciting. We have had a great pre-season and made some great signings.

“The main priority will always be to get promotion and to get three points every game. Obviously, to do that, you do have to score goals.

“It will be a tough opening game. Obviously, we played them towards the back end of last season but they have had a long break. We know that they are a very well-structured team with a set game plan.

“We can’t wait to be back at Garforth. It is like having a 12th player on the pitch. We have got great support at our home games and away games.”
