Hoffenheim and Eintracht both started the 2025/26 Bundesliga season with impressive wins. Young guns Can Uzun and Jean-Mattéo Bahoya starred for the Eagles.
Backdrop
After the 4-1 win over SV Werder Bremen, Eintracht travel to another team who made a statement on Matchday 1 in TSG Hoffenheim, who won 2-1 at Bayer 04 Leverkusen. Kick-off at the PreZero Arena is at 15:30 CEST on Saturday 30 August.
Dino Toppmöller was pleased for now but at the same time urged caution. “It was a good first step and a superb start for us,” said the head coach. “Next we have an away game at TSG Hoffenheim, who won all their friendlies in pre-season and just won at Leverkusen.”
Looking back
The last time the Eagles travelled to Sinsheim on Matchday 2 – as a promoted team – they triumphed 4-0. The visitors also have the upper hand in the overall head-to-head, although not as clearly. In 32 Bundesliga meetings, Eintracht have won 13 and lost 10.
Class of 2005
Two players who were born in 2005 particularly impressed for the Eagles last weekend. Can Uzun, at the age of 19 years and 285 days, became the youngest Eintracht player to register three goal involvements in a Bundesliga match since records began in the 2004/05 season. Meanwhile, Jean-Mattéo Bahoya netted the first brace of his career. Since Bahoya opened his account for Eintracht in March, no other current player has scored more competitive goals for the Eagles than the 20-year-old Frenchman.
With Nathaniel Brown and Mario Götze making their comebacks on Saturday following lengthy injuries, Toppmöller and his coaching team are spoilt for choice. Hoffenheim, on the other hand, received the news that centre-back Koki Machida tore his cruciate ligament at Leverkusen. TSG have responded quickly by signing Albian Hajdari.
