The start of the 2025/26 Bundesliga season is just around the corner! RB Leipzig will take part in the league's official season opening match for the first time in their history on Friday (20:30 CEST), with a heavy-weight clash away at FC Bayern München.

  • Which players are available and who will miss out?
  • How will the team approach the match?
  • What is he expecting to see from his team?

Find all the key quotes from today's press conference below.

Team news:

  • Lukas Klostermann, Tidiam Gomis and Andrija Maksimovic have all returned to team training, but remain unavailable for selection for Friday's game in Munich.
  • Benny Henrichs (rehab following Achilles tendon tear) is also still working on his comeback.
  • All other players are available to feature, including new signing Rômulo.

Ole Werner on FC Bayern:

  1. "We've watched all of Bayern's recent games, including the Supercup in Stuttgart. As a team, they know how to play together and they are continuing to play the same style that we saw from them last season, both in and out of possession. There haven't been any major surprises from FC Bayern. However, they play at a level that not only won them the Bundesliga last season, but that also puts them amongst the best teams in Europe. What we've seen from them so far only confirms that we will be up against a very tough challenge."

The plan vs. FCB:

  • “Our style of play is multi-faceted. As a team, it's important that you're prepared with various solutions for the differing scenarios that come up during a game. Any team that's playing in Munich will need to defend well and can expect to be kept busy in defence, in addition to occasionally defending deeper than you would against other opponents. That's down to Bayern's quality as a team.
  • At the same time, we want to be able to press high as often as possible in order to win possession high up the pitch. We'll have to identify the right moments to do so. It will be a challenge for us. The important thing is wanting to play good football in Munich and having the confidence to try, in order to not only give yourself a break from the pressure, but to also create chances and show the opponent that you are capable of posing a threat. Those are key components."

Ole Werner on the Bundesliga season opener:

  1. "I'm excited to be getting underway again and that we're competing in the Bundesliga. We were able to lay a strong foundation during pre-season for the campaign ahead. I'm excited that we'll be back in our usual rhythm. Tackling things with a new team with new faces is extremely motivating. Getting to start the season away in Munich, and to have it be the league's official season opener as well, is something special. All eyes will be on us tomorrow and the anthem will be played before kick-off, too. I'm really looking forward to the entire evening.
  2. "I'm feeling positive, also due to what I've seen in training this week. The majority of us have played in Munich before and therefore know what to expect tomorrow. Some say it will be the toughest match of the season, others say it will be the easiest. The best thing to do is to not think about it too much and to instead focus on ourselves in order to deliver the best possible performance. It's important that we present a united front and that we support each other. Based on what I've seen, I expect the team to do just that. It's possible to take something from every game, which is the mindset we're taking into tomorrow's match."

Ole Werner on Rômulo:

  1. "He's settled in well. Rômulo is a great guy, both on and off the pitch. There are many sides to his game: he's a ball-playing striker who is able to win possession for us. He's active inside the box and has a strong shot. He's fully fit and was able to complete a full pre-season in Türkiye. He's an option for tomorrow and has made a good impression so far."
