Ruud van Nistelrooy is seemingly hoping to use his Manchester United links to enlist the help of some of their players for the second half of the campaign.

He gave the Red Devils a helping hand when taking the managerial reins on an interim basis following Erik ten Hag’s late-October sacking. Now, United can return the favour by bolstering the ex-striker’s squad amid Leicester City’s quest to retain their Premier League status for another season.

The Foxes sit 19th-placed in the table and two points from safety, with their next fixture – an away trip to Villa Park – posing as a substantial test for Van Nistelrooy, who won three games and drew once when in charge at Old Trafford.

Now that the January window is open for business for another four weeks, the head coach was asked about his plans for the month ahead and whether he’d be turning to any of his former clubs for a helping hand.

“I’m looking at my network,” he admitted. “Of course, having played in a couple of countries and more clubs, I’m using my network in opportunities to strengthen the squad, and we are looking at all possibilities to help this team reach their targets. So yes, we are looking everywhere.”

In terms of the players Van Nistelrooy may look to reunite with at the King Power Stadium, reports have already suggested that he’s keen on taking 20-year-old Toby Collyer on board, with the youngster unlikely to be granted many minutes from now until the end of the term if he stays at United.

Elsewhere, Leicester were surprisingly linked with a more experienced option in the form of Victor Lindelof. TBR Football revealed last month that the Swede had made his way onto Van Nistelrooy’s shortlist, with hopes that he would sign on a half-season loan deal ahead of his contract expiring in June.
