In a stunning turn of events, Nottingham Forest’s rising star, Murillo, has become the unexpected standout of the 2023-24 Premier League season and the 22-year-old defender has put himself forward for consideration to Real Madrid as well as Manchester City.

Just a year ago, Murillo was a relative unknown, but today he stands as one of the league’s most thrilling defenders.

Since his €12 million transfer from Corinthians to Nottingham Forest in 2023, with a potential additional €3 million in add-ons, Murillo has solidified his position with 36 appearances for the English side.

His consistency is evident from the fact that he has started in all 32 league matches since his debut in matchday six, amassing an impressive 2,793 minutes on the field.

Comparisons and suitors in the market

Murillo’s ability to contribute to attacking plays has drawn comparisons to Brazilian compatriot David Luiz, highlighting his dynamic style and versatility on both ends of the pitch.

Despite his contract with Nottingham Forest running until 2028, speculation looms large over his future with the club beyond this season.

Reports suggest Forest could entertain offers of around £50 million for the talented defender, with Chelsea reportedly eyeing him as a successor to the ageing Thiago Silva.

Offering himself to Madrid and City

However, Murillo has openly expressed his preference for joining either Manchester City or Real Madrid, citing admiration for their winning culture and tactical prowess under esteemed managers.

In a candid interview with the Benja Me Mucho, Murillo did not hold back in praising Manchester City’s achievements and expressing his dream of playing at the Etihad as well as Madrid.

It’s incredible. Today, Manchester City, for me, along with Real Madrid, is the best team in the world. The pieces they have and the coach they have make a lot of difference,” he said.

“If Pep [Guardiola] called me, I would tremble. I think that today everyone dreams of playing for Manchester City or Real Madrid. They win at least one title every year and there is a lot of competition. They lose a game and they don’t accept it,” he added.

Unfortunately for the player, Real Madrid are more interested in signing Leny Yoro from Lille and any changes in the plan are highly unlikely.
