Moment of the Week

There’s only one place to start. Manchester City fans might have expected a backlash from their side this weekend, with an international break between their four-game losing streak and a fuller complement of options available to Pep Guardiola.

Against Spurs, however, their fortunes went from bad to worse.

Spurs were brave in their approach and ruthless on the counter to inflict City’s heaviest home defeat under Pep Guardiola. Four unanswered goals condemned the Premier League champions to a fifth straight defeat in all competitions and a third in a row in the Premier League. Their title defence is in real danger.

Player of the Week

The architect of Tottenham’s 4-0 win at Manchester City, James Maddison had a 28th birthday to remember at the Etihad. Maddison has flitted in and out of favour with England of late, with the midfielder a notable omission from Euro 2024 and recent Three Lions squads. Here, however, he proved he’s more than capable against the very best.

Maddison opened the scoring with a neat finish after ghosting off his marker into the penalty box, before combining brilliantly with Heung-min Son to double Spurs’ lead with a delicate dink.

He won nine duels, completed 100% of his take-ons and won 100% of his tackles, in an all-action performance marauding forward from midfield. Competition is fierce for a place with England in his favoured area of the pitch, but this was a statement display. The challenge for Maddison and Spurs is producing this level on a consistent basis.

Goal of the Week

Matheus Cunha had himself a day out at Fulham this weekend. The Brazilian just loves scoring goals on the road and helped himself to a brace at Craven Cottage.

His first was genius, as Cunha produced his best Dennis Bergkamp impression to cushion down Mario Lemina’s long pass and finish expertly. The brilliance of that first touch can not be understated.

Miss of the Week

Noni Madueke has talked up his chemistry with Cole Palmer at Chelsea.

The wavelengths, however, were a little off this weekend…

Save of the Week

Andre Onana has arguably been Manchester United’s best player this season. Predictably, his fine displays have not gathered quite the same attention his mistakes did last season – but the improvement is clear.

The Cameroonian ensured his side left Ipswich Town with a point, with this stop from Liam Delap the best of the bunch. A huge right hand when a goal seemed certain.
